Photography
This Course was my first real endeavor into the arts and it definitely stretched me to think in ways that I was not used to. It took the idea of a new perspective to the literal sense as I looked at the world through the lens of a camera. I learned how to take risks to make my photographs not just visually pleasing, but to make them into something new and interesting that the world has not seen before.
A compilation of my photography for this course can be viewed by following the above link to my Flickr. The photograph to the right on this page is an example from my constructed project. There are several layers to these pictures, both in the sense of meaning, as well as in the editing process. Other projects include a performative project, a place project, and my final project. My darkroom project is not available on Flickr as the photographs, of course, are not digital. My final project, entitled “Illuminated” takes inspiration from Uta Barth’s work, which is not focused on a clear subject, but is instead intended to make the viewer focus on the act of seeing in itself. I chose to emulate her work because of the way this focus on the act of seeing stuck with me, not only in photography, but through my entire life.
